Tourists flock to Kidman waterfall

Aussie screen siren Nicole Kidman always struck us as quite a smart cookie, but she might want to dust down her old HSC biology textbooks if some of her latest burblings are anything to go by.
The 42-year-old actress reckons her pregnancy with Sunday Rose was the result of taking a dip in a waterfall in the sleepy Australian backwater of Kununurra. Now known as “Fertility Waters”, would-be mums have been flocking to the site to splash a bit of the magic baby water all over their bodies ever since.
"I never thought that I would get pregnant and give birth to a child but it happened on this movie," Kidman told The Australian Women's Weekly last year after starring in Baz Luhrmann’s Australia. "Nothing happened in a small way on this film ... We had heat and torrential rains and equine flu and then I got pregnant.
"Seven babies were conceived out of this film and only one was a boy. There is something up there in the Kununurra water because we all went swimming in the waterfalls, so we can call it the fertility waters now."
And “Fertility Waters” is exactly what they call it now. Since making her ill-advised witterings, tourists have been visiting the town in droves, all hoping to replicate a bit of the old Kidman magic. Some lazy tykes have even been asking the town’s tourism office to stick a flask full of the magical wet stuff in the post.
“We try to dissuade these women from being sent the water because of the difficulties of collecting and transporting it,” said Narelle Brooks, the town’s tourism boss. “We encourage them to come here for a swim if that's what they want.”
Whether Nicole’s husband Keith Urban has anything to say about all this remains unclear, but he might want to have a look at his daughter’s birth certificate.
